What is SAP?
Behind the scenes of my work: part one

If I were asked to explain to someone what SAP is in a few words, I would say that it is the "management brain" of many companies around the world. Instead, if I were to explain it to a child, I would say that SAP is like a huge notebook where every part of a company writes what they are doing in real time. Imagine having a football team where all the players can see the moves of their teammates in advance: they would always know where to pass the ball, who is free and who is going to shoot. Here, SAP does the same thing, but with companies. Let’s go in order.
SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, a system that helps companies manage every aspect of their business: accounting, human resources, logistics, production, sales and much more. In practice, it allows to have a single platform where all the company information is centralized and integrated, avoiding errors, losses of time and guaranteeing efficiency. Think of a large company with several locations, suppliers and customers around the world. Without a system like SAP, it would be a delirium to manage everything in an orderly way. With SAP, every business process is connected and monitored in real time, facilitating strategic and operational decisions.
There are various jobs in the SAP world. I deal with its implementation and management. This means that I help companies to customize the system according to their needs, configuring the necessary modules and making sure everything works correctly. My role requires a combination of technical and management skills: on the one hand, I need to know how the software works and its structure; on the other hand, I need to understand business processes in order to translate customer needs into practical and efficient solutions.
SAP is used by over 75% of large companies, including giants such as Apple, Amazon, Ferrari, BMW, Nestlé and Adidas. Without SAP, such large companies would run the risk of losing control of their operations, with huge consequences for cost, efficiency and lead time. Working with SAP means being at the center of key processes that affect business and, at the same time, having the ability to solve complex problems with advanced technological solutions.
SAP is a powerful tool that transforms the way companies operate. However, while having a standard, each company has its own unique requirements, which depend on factors such as production, quality and resource management. For example, a company producing food products will have very different quality control and traceability processes from one producing consumer goods. In SAP, you can customize the various modules and configurations to adapt them to these specific processes, making the system flexible and able to respond to the needs of each individual business reality.
In essence, SAP is not just software, but a real engine that drives and powers the success of companies by optimizing every aspect of their operations.
